Peals Introduction

New on 20th September 2023

A peal is a continuous piece of ringing consisting of 5000 or more changes and may be rung for special occasions such as the Coronation of King Charles III or just for fun.  Peals may be rung on church bells, handbells or even using virtual environments such as Ringing Room and Handbell Stadium.  Peals can take as little as 1.5 hours on handbells, to around 4 hours on very heavy bells.  Ringing a peal is regarded as a big challenge for a ringer, requiring mental and physical stamina.

Association Peals

New on 20th September 2023

Full details of all Association Peals are listed below.  The peals will be updated on an annual basis in line with the production of the Association Annual Report.  A great deal of effort has been undertaken over the years to ensure that the peal details are correct ,and most recently, all the Association peals have been uploaded to Bellboard (the Ringing World system for recording peals) which allows easy access to the peal details and as well as providing comprehensive search facilities.  If you find any errors, then please notify the Peal Recorder.

Andrew GilesLocal ringer and historian Andrew Giles has very kindly made available for free download two of his excellent publications about ringers and bells in our Association's area.

The books are in PDF format and Andrew would be delighted if you would take the opportunity to download and read them at your leisure in the hope that they will increase interest in ringing locally and, if read by non-ringers, inspire readers to get involved and try our fascinating and very sociable pastime.
