Updated 16th January 2021:
Database Update Files added
2020 PDF Pealbook added
The Association has a complete record of all Peals rung in its name and within the Association's area since it was founded in 1893. A "read only" version of the Association's Peal Record Database is available for download and installation onto your PC (MS Windows only).
Also available for download are PDF files of each year's Peals since 1989.
A "Peal" is a continuous piece of ringing comprising 5000 or more "changes". All of the Peals rung - some 4701 by the end of 2020 - have been recorded. These records include the Association's Peal Books and, in the modern era, computer databases of the performances.
The Peal Recorder keeps the records up to date and provides details of Peal ringing activity for the Association's Annual Report. The Peal Recorder will also make available upon request a summary of a tower or an individual's Peal records as they relate to the Association.
The Peal Recorder has made the Peal Database available as a downloadable MS Windows application - please see the link at the bottom of this page.
The Peal Recorder has also made available the Annual Peal Records since 1989 in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. Please see the files below.
To install the database:
1. Download the file "DatabaseSetUp.zip" (1.24MB download) to your PC
2. Extract the files to a folder on your hard-drive
3. Run the file "setup.exe" and follow the instructions
The current DatabaseSetUp.zip is a new version of the software and contains Peals to the end of 2015. This updated version allows for statistical analysis after a search. Please note that the Database is "read only".
Users who want to update to the latest version of the software should uninstall the old version first to avoid conflicts. However, please see the Advisory Note from The Association Peal Recorder below regarding use of the software under Windows 8/8.1/10.
To update the records in existing installation of the Database:
1. Download and extract the Database Update Files (Towers.zip), and over-write the files of the same name in the directory where you installed the program. The file include Peals to the end of 2020.
Advisory Note from The Peal Recorder
The installation file DatabaseSetUp.zip will not install under Windows 8/8.1/10 although the program can be run OK in those environments. Despite a few little problems there is none with the accuracy of the data. Please email The Association Peal Recorder for further advice. Regretably, it has not been possible to recompile the program to make it wholly compatible with Windows 8.
Please refer any questions about the database (program or data) directly to the Association Peal Recorder.
